Painting by Pablo AmaringoClaire Mataira was born in The Netherlands in 1949 as Theresa Roothaan.
She started drawing angels at the age of three and portraits at the age of eight.
In her childhood she was surrounded by ancient history, religious art and libraries, as well as a large multigenerational, artistic and scholarly family.
After completing Grammar School (Gymnasium Beta), she studied art at ‘The Academy’ in Arnhem, Holland.
She immigrated by herself to Australia at the age of twenty-one and completed her studies in art at the University of Adelaide (Australia).
She became an Australian citizen and had several one-woman shows of her artwork, mainly in Brisbane.
She lectured about her esoteric work at the Theosophical Society in Brisbane and Sydney and completed courses in writing, art-therapy and nursing.
Always deeply connected to her spiritual life, she endeavored to integrate her artistic visions and psychic intuitions with her faith and her daily life as a mother of three children and a carer of the aged.
In 2005 she embarked on a spontaneous shamanic journey, when these visions and intuitions became very powerful and her links to a distant past in South America became inevitably obvious to her. This led her to take some drastic steps in her personal life, which had consequences that were as far-reaching as they were unusual.
She has just returned from a trip of five months in Bolivia, where she researched historical and shamanic material for her second book.
