Peter Gorman, award-winning journalist and noted Amazon explorer and his fantastic team will lead an 8 1/2 day trip into deep North Western Amazonia beginning on Friday, July 2 and finishing up on Saturday, July 10, in time for registration for the Sixth Annual Amazonian Shamanism Conference in Iquitos, Peru. During our time together, this trip, called Northwest Amazonia 2010: Her Rivers, Peoples and Sacred Medicines will have you seeing parts of Iquitos people who have lived there for 10 years have never seen; will have you on overnight riverboats under the influence--if you choose--of local magic fungi; will have you walking in the most fantastic primordial swamp I've ever encountered; swimming in a lake populated by pink and grey river dolphins, night canoeing, hiking in primary rainforest, gathering wild foods and having a rollicking good time the whole time. We'll have two, three if you push me, ayahuasca ceremonies led by my late teacher Julio's son Jairo, do two indigenous Matses' medicines, sapo and nu-nu; and have two opportunities to do the magic fungi.

This trip, an intensive jungle course, will change your life. This is no freaking fooling deep Amazon and not some cool retreat. You will bathe with piranas; you will be in the real jungle. You will come face to face with yourself in several ways you have never faced before. And you will come out a better person. My team is impeccable; they will take care of you like you have never been taken care of before. The river is gorgeous; the medicine wonderful.

Cost for the 8 1/2 day journey, which includes everything but airfare (we pick you up at the Iquitos Airport and you don't need anything but walking around money from then) is $1,400. That includes food, hotels, transport, medicine, my team, jungle gear, and everything except your glass of wine in Iquitos and your airfare.

This is definitely a dirt under your fingernails trip, not a retreat. You will be comfortable but you will be bathing in a clean river tributary, not a shower. This is the real deal, no shit.

You will be a better person for this time in the jungle, learning how it all actually works, and learning how Ayahuasca is part of jungle life on the day to day. The trip is limited to 12 people. Deposit of $400 is required to hold a space.
